ABSTRACT

This research is a taxonomical study of the plants growing in the vicinity of the Philippine Science High School Research Station at Brgy. Balcon Maravilla, Jordan Guimaras whether they contain alkaloids or not.

The test used was the Culvenor-Fitzgerald method of alkaloid field testing which can only detect the presence of chloroform-soluble alkaloids. No attempt was made to test for the presence of water-soluble alkaloids.

Not all plant species in the study site were tested for their alkaloid content. Out of the 35 plants subjected to testing, 15 showed to be positive for alkaloids.
