ABSTRACT

This experimental study in a Completely Randomized Design determined the antibacterial effect of crude makabuhay (Tinopora rumphil) vine extract against Bacillus subtilis and compared its potency against Tetracycline, a commercial antibiotic, and distilled water. The study also determined the significance difference in the zone of inhibition in the culture growth B. subtilis when treated with crude extract of makabuhay vine, Tetracycline, and distilled water, by using the On-Way Analysis of Variance, set at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The Scheffe test was used as a post hoc multiple comparison test. Potency of the crude extract of makabuhay vine and Tetracycline are the independent variables, while the zones of inhibition in the growth b. subtilis are the dependent variable of the study.

The crude extract of makabuhay vine showed antibacterial activity against B. subtilis but not us potent as the commercial antibiotic Tetracycline.
