ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the quality of the different biodiesel products from different oil sources. Specifically, it determined and compared the voltage output, smoke odor and smoke color of 80%-20% copra biodiesel-commercial diesel mixture, 100% copra biodiesel, 100% refined coconut biodiesel and 100% commercial diesel. The biodiesel products were produced from the transesterification process involving NaOH and the vegetable oil sources, and have undergone the other processes of filtration of the residue and the separation of the glycerin products from the biodiesel products. The biodiesel products and the commercial diesel were subjected to the voltage output, smoke color and smoke odor tests. Data were processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science 7.5 software.
The results of this study showed that the 100% commercial diesel showed the greatest voltage output. Among the four biodiesel products, however, the 80%-20% copra biodiesel-commercial diesel mixture showed the greatest voltage output.
The 100% copra biodiesel and the 100% refined coconut biodiesel proved to have the clearest emission in terms of smoke color and smoke odor, for all the biodiesel and diesel types in this study.
