ABSTRACT

Clarias batachrus is a very popular species for aquaculture because of the several characteristics it holds, which include the ability to tolerate anoxia, wide-ranging food habits, and extremely high yields. This unique combination of biological characteristics lead to a very high production with relatively unsophisticated pond management and feeds. This study aimed to measure and to compare the meat quality of C batrachus fed with commercial feed and chicken entrails after grilling using a palatability test. The palatability test was conducted by a panel of fifteen people chosen randomly. The panelists were requested to rate the palatability of the catfish meat using the scale shown in the Palatability Test Rating Form. The results of this study show that there is no significant difference in the palatability test rating scores of C. batrachus fed with commercial feed and C. batrachus fed with chicken entrails. The meat qualities of C. batrachus fed with commercial feed and fed with chicken entrails have no significance taste difference. Both are equally palatable and safe for consumption. This implies that chicken entrails fed to C. batrachus do not affect its meat quality.
