ABSTRACT

Large flying foxes are Megachiropterans that are pivotal to the flourishing of forest covers. Unfortunately the amount of Pteropus species concludes that the population estimates are those on the brink of extintion. Decrease is imminent almost everywhere especially in Southeast Asia where half of the species (83/166) of flying foxes are found. We mapped the areas in Mambukal Resort, Negros Occidental where flying fox colonies perch and conducted a roost count in determining the population of flying fox individuals per species and overall in april, may, and june, 1012. We determined that relative abundance of each species for the three months and the result is showed that Acerodon jubatus has a total population of 271 individuals, pteropus hypomelanus with 3120 individuals and Pteropus vampyrus with 6210 individuals. These results provide basis for the biodiversity agencies in Negros, specifically in Mambukal Resort to help take awareness of these species and to protect the population.
