ABSTRACT
Lingzhi or Ganoderma lucidum is scarce and its suffers from various unfavorable environmental conditions such as lack of proper nutrients, insect infestation, and lack of humidity and non-optimum temperatures. G.lucidum, along with other mushrooms basically needs nutrients such as cellulose, glucose and starch for its growth and development. It also requires elements such as nitrogen, carbon, sulphur, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium for its growth. Some studies focused on the best media for growing G.lucidum . Urine is a nitrogen-rich organic material that can be a culture media supplement in the culture of Ganoderma lucidum. This study aimed to utilize human urine as supplement to Potato Dextrose Agar as culture media for Ganoderma lucidum. The Ganoderma lucidum was collected from Herbanext in Bacolod City. Potato Dextrose Agar media was prepared with different concentrations of urine and then four different approaches in inoculating Ganoderma lucidum were used to culture. Despite of the different approaches used, contaminations were still present. Therefore, no pattern was observed in the growth of the G.lucidum. Even though contaminations were present, it was found that Ganoderma lucidum can grow in PDA media with different urine concentrations. Data about the culture of G.lucidum is scarce therefore, little is known about G.lucidum and its culture.
