ABSTRACT
Acetes ranges are widely distributed in the world, being economically and commercially important shrimps in Asia and east Africa waters. They are the main ingredients of the shrimp paste, the number one product and source of income of Anilao. The study was conducted to provide information about the Acetes shrimps and as well as to open new possibilities to increase and enhance shrimp production.
This study determined the population structure of the Acetes shrimp species from the coastal waters of Dangula-an, Anilao, Iloilo during the months of July to December 2009. A percentage of 12.5 of the total shrimp catch were collected every last quarter of the month. Five hundred samples were randomly selected for determining sex ratio and maturity ratio. All the samples collected were dry-weighed to determine biomass.
The overall sex ratio is 1:1.53. There is dominance of female shrimps over male shrimps. The percentage of juvenile shrimps is 0.93% of the total catch. The overall biomass of the shrimp catch is 141.4254 grams. The most abundant shrimp resource in terms of biomass was in November 2009.
