ABSTRACT

Rodent infestation is considered as one of the major pest problems in the world. They not only act as health hazards but they also cause damage to households, agricultural crops, and different kinds of businesses. There are many kinds of control methods available for rodent pests, but the most commonly used are rodenticides. Due to the risk of secondary poisoning, finding a safer alternative control method is important. This study aimed to develop a repellent against rodents in chalk form that would use a natural extract, ethanol, water and plaster were formulated in a preliminary data gathering; one water chalk, one alcohol chalk, and two chili chalks. The four chalks were each tested for percent repellency on four respective groups of ten female white mice each. Willhide and Fletcher’s encounter method was used to determine the precent repellency of four chalks. The percent repellencies were then analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Tukey’s Pairwise Comparisons. The results showed that the two chalks incorporated with chili extract had significantly greater percent repellencies than the other two chalks without chili extract.
