This study determined the solid waste composition of different areas along Villa Beach. It also determined the water pollution level of those areas.
Specifically, it determined the solid waste composition of each of the sampling areas. It also specifically determined the microbiological components in terms of the presence or absence of fecal coliform, the physical qualities in terms of total solids, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, salinity, and temperature, the chemical properties in terms of pi, total hardness, chlorides, and dissolved oxygen of the water samples. It, too, determined the significant differences in the parameter values for the physical qualities, and chemical properties among the different sampling sites. Lastly, it determined if the sampling sites’ parameters pass the standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
These solids wastes were present in all three stations: bags, food wrappers/containers, clothing and shoes, glass, capa and lids, beverage cane, and fishing lines. Building materials and fishing nets were observed in station 2 and 3 only. Cups, forks, knives and spoons, and plastic bottles were seen in station 1 and 3 only. Shotgun shells/wadding and balloons were found only in station 1. light bulbs/tubes were seen only in station 2. Tobacco packaging/wrappers, cigar tips, and tampons were seen only in station 3.
Stations 2 and 3 nay possible harbors for harmful disease- causing bacteria since water samples from both stations tested “present” for fecal coliforms. Station tested negative and may be considered relatively safe from harmful disease-causing bacteria.
Station 1 had a total solids amount of 41409 mg/1, a total dissolved solids amount of 40837 mg/1, a total suspended solids amount of 572 mg/l, a salinity of 36, a temperature of 29.8333 *C, a pH of 7.88, a total hardness of 4118 mg/1 Ca CO3, a chloride amount of 19716 mg/l, and a dissolved oxygen level of 85.4667 saturation.
Station 2 had a total solids amount of 38752 mg/1, a total dissolved solids amount of 38338 mg/l, a total suspended solids amount of 414 mg/l, a salinity of 36, a temperature of 30.5 °C, a pH of 7.92, a total hardness of 3369 mg/1 Ca CO3, a chloride amount of 19412 mg/l, and a dissolved oxygen level of 67.7 saturation.
Station 3 had a total solids amount of 37180 mg/1, a total dissolved solids amount of 36760 mg/l, a total suspended solids amount of 420 mg/l, a salinity of 36, a temperature of 30.4667 “C, a pH of 7.8867, a total hardness of 2995 mg/1 Ca CO3, a chloride amount of 19326 mg/1, and a dissolved oxygen level of 61.9333 saturation.
There exists a significant difference in the total dissolved solids, total solids, and total hardness among the three different sampling stations.
Station 1 failed the Class SB water quality standard for total suspended solids, while station 2 and 3 failed the standard for dissolved oxygen and total suspended solids.
