ABSTRACT

Production of ethyl alcohol from collected Sargassum sp was achieved through alcoholic fermentation with commercial yeast and distillation of the resulting solution within a constant temperature.

Continuous fermentation of 100 grams of ground Sargassum in a solution of 150 ml distilled water, using baker’s yeast in a water bath of constant temperature, 70 degree celsius for around 8 days, and distillation of the fermented mass with a controlled temperature ranging from 75 degree celsius to 84 degree celsius (bp of ethanol: 78 degree celsius ) for 18 years yielded a water and ethyl alcohol solution with a mass of 36.7 g and 23.3g (replicate 1 and 2 respectively). Concentrations for both were unknown. Tests were conducted for further verification.
