ABSTRACT

Furfural or furfur aldehyde was acquired by distilling pentosan coming from rice hull.

Furfural from the extracted pentosan of rice hull was a colorless liquid with noticeable smell.

Furfural was an oily substance which turned dark when exposed to air.

It was found out that furfural has significant effect on the growth of Staphylococcus arcus and

Bacillus subtilis.
