ABSTRACT

This study deals with testing the water sources of Barangay Bitoon for coliform bacteria.

Five water samples were gathered across the said vicinity. The method used for testing the total coliform was the Multiple Tube Fermentation Technique. This method utilized Lactose broth media for the presumptive test and Brilliant Green Lactose Bile for the confirmative test. All the samples from the five stations proved to be positive but each had varying numbers of colonies.

Sampling station 4 had 5,942.7 colonies/100-ml which immediately qualified it to be the dirtiest or most contaminated. Sampling station 3 on the other hand, had 19.9 colonies/100-ml which qualified it to be the most potable water source compared with the four others.
