ABSTRACT
The One-Spot Case study aimed to determine if there is a significant difference in the antibacterial activity of malunggay (Moringa oleifera) leaf extract on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli as influenced by the maturity of leaves and elapsed time from extraction to application on the test organisms. To test for the effect of the elapsed time, the extracts of both young and mature leaves were applied to the test organisms at different time lapses: the first one was immediately applied after the extraction process, the second was 12 hours after extraction and lastly, after 24 hours.
Descriptive results showed that the extract of mature leaves had the highest mean zone of inhibition compared to the young leaves, and the greatest antibacterial activity of malunggay extract occurred when the extract was applied immediately to the said bacteria and consequently, the efficiently decreased thereafter.
However, analyses through One Way Analysis of Variance revealed that mature leaf extract showed significant difference in its effect on both E.coli and S.aureus at all time lapses, but not the young leaf extract.
On the other hand, T-test revealed that, of the three time lapses, only at the zero time lapse that both extracts showed significant differences in their effects.
