ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the compression strengths of the concrete product tiles with seashells as substitute to lime. The concrete product tiles were tested in terms of their vertical and horizontal compression strengths as compared to commercial ceramic tiles. The significant differences in the compression strengths of the products and the commercial ceramic tiles were also determined. The concrete product tiles and the commercial ceramic tiles served as the independent variables while the vertical and horizontal compression strengths served as the dependent variables in the study. The production of the product tiles involved four major phases, the gathering of seashells, pulverization, mixing, and curing. The products were then tested accordingly. Three sample each of concrete product tiles and commercial ceramic tiles were subject for testing in terms of their vertical compression strength. Another three samples each of concrete product tiles and commercial ceramic tiles were subjected for testing in terms of their horizontal compression strength. In analyzing the data that was gathered from this study, the mean and standard deviation, as well as the t-test for independent sample means set at 0.05 alpha level of significance, was employed.

Results of this study showed that the concrete product tiles and the commercial ceramic tiles have equal mean vertical compression strength, which is 13.3333 kiloNewtons. The concrete product tiles, however, showed higher mean horizontal compression strength, which is 670.0000 kiloNewtons. There was no significant difference in both the mean vertical and mean horizontal compression strengths scores of the concrete product tiles and the commercial ceramic tiles.
