WATER QUALITY TESTING OF SELECTED DEEP WELLS IN BARANGAY BITO-ON, JARO, ILOILO CITY

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study was to determine the portability of water from four different deep wells located in Barangay Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City.

The first sampling site was located 10 m from Bito-on Elementary School. The second sampling site was near a creek, approximately 17 m from the school. The third sampling site was behind a sari-sari store, approximately 100 m from the school. the last sampling site was the well nearest to Bito-on Bridge.

The parameters that were measured for the study were the presence of coliform, temperature, Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and pH. Multiple Fermentation Tube method paper after drying from filtration of samples. A pH meter and a thermometer were used to measure pH and temperature respectively.

All wells had similar values in all parameters except for coliform presence. Of the four wells, the first sampling site, the well nearest to Bito-on Elementary School, is safe source of drinking water, while the other three wells had detected presence of coliform, making the consumption of water from these wells unadvisable.
