ABSTRACT
The study compared the internal and external quality and disease incidence rating of Carabao mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruits harvested at different ages and subjected to various post harvest treatments, namely: Zonrox dipping, hot water treatment and the conventional way of handling fruits (after harvest, fruits were left untreated).
A total of 135 fruits were used in the study. Twenty-seven fruits coming from one tree were harvested at 95, 100, 105, 110, and 115 days after flower induction (DAFI). The following data were gathered the day after harvest until the last day observation: daily weight, peel color rating, lenticels spotting, latex burn rating, and stem-end rot and anthracnose disease incidence rating.
The various post harvest treatments of Carabao mango fruits did not have significant effects on weight loss, peel color rating, lenticels spotting, latex burn rating, and stem-end rot and anthracnose disease incident rating (SAS 1996). On the other hand, different ages of harvest did have significant effects in terms of the above parameters (SAS 1996). Fruits harvested at ages 105 DAFI up to 115 DAFI showed good internal and external quality compared with those harvested at 95 and 100 DAFI (NMRCD Standard Scoresheets).
