ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the water quality of Bito-on Bay by testing for the presence of fecal coliform. Water samples were taken from three different sites. The samples were tested using the Multiple Tube Fermentation Method to determine the presence of fecal coliform. These method utilized Lactose Broth tubes for the presumptive test and Brilliant Green Bile solution for the confirmative test of each water sample. The mean of the MPN of the BGB medium was compared to the DENR standard which was 200 MPN per 100ml of water sample to see whether it is safe for human use or not.
The three water sample sites served as the independent variable while the fecal coliform count served as the dependent variable.
It was found out that the fecal coliform count, which was 1292 MPN per 100ml, had exceeded to the DENR standard. Therefore, we can say that Bito-on Bay is not safe for human use.
