ABSTRACT
Entamoeba histolytica can cause parasitic infection in humans that lead to a disease entity called Amebiasis.
Approximately 50 million cases and 100,000 deaths were caused by E. histolytica as reported by the World Health Organization. Most of the infections are acquired in developing countries. It is the third leading parasite cause death worldwide. Therefore there is a need for early detection of amoeba in humans especially in the developing countries like the Philippines.
Diagnosis can be established by demonstrating the presence of parasite through fecalysis, rectal smear, and other highly sophisticated diagnostic modalities.
The results showed 100% negative for E. histolytica for both rectal smear and fecalysis.
