ABSTRACT

Jellyfish is a source of medical and economic problems with losses that amount as large as 10 million dollars per case (Gibbons and Richardson 2013). However, Jellyfish studies in the Philippines are limited due to the local belief that the creature is not important and there’s little to none published scientific articles about jellyfish local to Panay Island (Camacho 2007). Banate Bay is known for having corals and has sighting of jellyfish (Intel). This study aims to record the scientific and local names of jellyfish from Banate Bay and identified them. Jellyfish belonging to Family Mastigiidae was collected. Jellyfish under family Mastigiidae can be found in Banate Bay. We recommend lengthening the time of collecting samples and adding more locations around panay.
