ABSTRACT
Hand hygiene is a critical factor in the prevention of cross-transmission. Hand washing takes connderably more time and effort. Hand sanitizers are now commonly used in healthcare as well as every day cleansing. Staphylococcus aurens is a widespread species of bacteria, which can be commonly found on skin. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity and pH level of five hand sanitizers locally available in Iloilo City. These five hand sanitizers were bought from various stores at Iloilo City. They were tested for antibacteral activity using the Kirby-Bauer dise diffusion technique. Their zones of inhibition were measured at 18, 24, 36 and 42 hours after incubation. Their pH levels were also determined. At the end of the study, results showed that while some hand sanitizers had high antibacterial activity (HSS and HS1), others do not meet expectations (HSZ, HS3, and HS4). All hand sanitizers had fairly neutral pll since producers me buffer solutions in order not to do damage on the skin of commamiers
