PUBLISCIENCE VOLUME 6

ABOUT THE COVER

The cover features human hair, a potential sorbent material for oil spill removal. Hair is the only human body part that continually grows, degenerates, and miraculously grows again throughout life. While it is composed of dead cells in its cuticle, the presence of biochemical and hydrophobic properties exemplifies its functionality as a sorbent. Hair can be a symbol of hope, of life and of better things to come. Despite the adversities life brings, we persevere and stay afloat. To rise above the sea of darkness means to emerge from a catastrophe — even stronger, wiser, and more powerful.
